Nicole debated with herself whether to give into Hara’s offer all through the bus ride. Honestly, she did feel left out last year when everyone returned talking about the small adventures they had had even though Seungyeon and Hara tried to fill her in with all the gossip (not that she cared), still, it wasn’t the same. IF she went, were her mother and brother okay to fend for themselves? Her brother wasn’t really considered the dependable type, besides he’s still young, a middle schooler. Plus, she couldn’t simply let Hara and Seungyeon pay for her trip no matter how wealthy they were. ‘I guess if I were to go I can pay them back later,’ Nicole sighed as she arrived at the entrance of a small cafe.
As she pushed through the door of Fifteen-Eighty-Three her thoughts and worries left her refocusing her mind on working.
‘Nicole!’
‘Oh, hello Unni!’ replied Nicole as she received a friendly hug from her boss, Gyuri. Though Gyuri’s at a young age of 23, her and her high school sweetheart, Jonghyun, already own a successful business. After working with them for a little over a year, Nicole had grown a strong bond with the couple, sometimes being the ‘middle person’ when they fought, she was family to them, not just an employee. Nicole admired their love for each other and their early marriage.
‘How are you?’ asked Gyuri as she released Nicole from her hug.
‘Just came out a maths exam.’
‘Maths? Hated maths,’ Jonghyun stated as he appeared behind the counter. The girls laughed.
‘Ha ha and you questioned me when I said I wanted to be in control of the café’s budget,’ Gyuri teased, ‘if you were in charge who knows what would’ve happened to this place. We probably would be living in the streets by now.’
‘I only argued with you because you were being too protective over the money. You wouldn’t let me spend any on ingredients unless you approved. You made me feel like an employee,’ Jonghyun said in his defence.
Gyuri stood there in disbelief, ‘I had to approve of everything because I know you would spend it on useless stuff which we wouldn’t need.’
Nicole could sense an oncoming fight and quickly interrupted before it got bigger. ‘I’m sure both of you were just thinking of Fifteen-Eighty-Three.’
Gyuri and Jonghyun ignored Nicole and simply glared at each then turned and went on with their own work. ‘What can I do about them and their childish antics?’ thought Nicole, ‘just give them five minutes and they’ll probably be all over each other, telling them how sorry they were.’ Before Nicole even finished visualising the consequences, Jonghyun was already apologising to Gyuri whilst hugging her. Nicole smiled as she saw Gyuri blush and peck Jonghyun on the cheek. The creak of the door disturbed the perfect image, as all three pairs of eyes turned to face the door only to see it was Jessica.
‘Oh, sorry to disturb you guys,’ laughed Jessica when she saw Gyuri and Jonghyun, ‘maybe you two should take the day off and get a room?’ she teased.
‘You’re just jealous,’ retorted Gyuri.
Jessica obviously in shock by Gyuri’s comment could only mumble a soft whisper which only Nicole could hear, ‘well, at least I still have Jay.’
With that, the conversations died out as they began concentrating on work, serving customers, preparing coffees and soon it was nearing closing time.
‘Nicole, you want a ride home?’
‘No thanks, Jonghyun, I can get home myself. You guys can go first, I’ll close off the cafe,’ replied Nicole. Normally, she would’ve accepted the ride home with Gyuri and Jonghyun but tonight she wanted some time alone, to think about Hara and Seungyeon’s offer. Ever since Nicole had heard the trip was to America, every little thing she saw or did reminded her of the life she had there. It was hard not to miss the carefree American life when she was constantly busied with school and work in Korea, not to mention that there was her mum and brother to worry about. In fact, she was amazed she didn’t have any white hairs with all the burdens on her shoulders. Life in America was different. At least dad was there....
After closing off the shop, Nicole had been mindlessly walking along down the street towards her house unaware that she was crossing the road.
‘BEEEP!’
Nicole reverted to reality, leaving all her thoughts behind. She turned just in time to see a glimpse silhouette of a limousine crash into her before she was encompassed by a curtain of black.

Nicole slowly opened her eyes. Blurred images of her surroundings slowly came into focus.
She tried to sit up when a jerk of pain came to her head. ‘Uhnnnh...’
Immediately an elderly figure came approached her. ‘How are you, dear?’ came a gentle voice.
‘Where am I? Who are you?’ Nicole questioned nervously. She knew of the consequences of strangers. Stranger danger.
‘Don’t worry, love, i won’t hurt you. An old lady like me can’t bite any longer. You’re at my house and all your belongings are right by you. You just fainted for a while after my stupid driver crashed into you. Luckily it was on graze on you knee and a small bump on your head but don’t worry, my doctors fixed you up a jiffy,’ she smiled.
Nicole slowly took in all the sudden information, replaying the last moments before the car crash. ‘Oh my gosh! I should get home,’ Nicole gasped in a sudden pang of realisation, ‘I really should get going. My mum would be so worried and I don’t want to bother yo- ouch!’
‘Sit down,love,’ the old lady commanded, ‘you are in no hurry. I called your home to tell them you will be spending the night. Got your home number from your emergency contacts in your wallet, Smart thing to have in there. Not to worry. Now get some rest, my grandson will take you home tomorrow.’
Nicole thought of objecting to the old lady’s suggestion but after hearing the lady’s tone, Nicole knew that no matter what, the old lady would always get things her way.
Guess it wouldn’t hurt staying for the night.

Sorry for this extremely late update. Chapter 3 has been up for a while on soompi. I normally update blogspot first before I update soompi BUT because i was in china, on holidays, I wasn't able to access blogspot. So i apologise.
Anyways, i'm back, so expect updates more often :D
Maybe I'll suddenly pop 2 chapter in one day since I'm so free at the moment.
Nothing to comment ablout this chapter. It's mor e of a filler chapter than anything. I think I rushed it too much but the story is heading somewhere, I hope.
